About the Feature Requests category

About the Feature Requests Category

A space to collect, discuss, and vote on feature ideas or improvements to the Open edX platform. The most popular ideas may be turned into product proposals, increasing their chances of being built.

If there’s something that slows you down, creates friction for your team, or makes learning more difficult for your students, this is the place to share it. Or maybe you have an idea for a completely new feature—post it here and draw on the Community’s input to help shape and strengthen it.

:hammer_and_wrench: How to Use This Category

To submit a feature request:

  1. Create a new topic for each idea.
  2. Select the “Feature Requests” category when posting.
  3. Include the following details in your post:
    • Overview: 1–2 sentences summarizing the idea.
    • Problem: 1–2 sentences describing the main user problem or barrier.
    • Use Cases: As a [course author/instructor/learner], I need to [do something] in order to [achieve a specific outcome].
    • Supporting Data (optional): Interview notes, survey results, etc.
  4. Share your idea: Once posted, share it with others! You can:
    • Mention people who might be interested
    • Share the link in relevant Slack channels
    • Bring it up in a Working Group meeting

:ballot_box: Voting & Prioritization

From time to time (timeline TBD), we’ll post a poll to help identify the most valuable ideas. Your votes will help guide which requests are prioritized for development.

P.S. Please don’t reply directly to this thread—create a new topic for your idea instead.
