Hi there!

I’d like to nominate [Javier Ontiveros](https://github.com/holaontiveros) for a Core Contributor role as Code Contributor to the following repositories:

- [frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-base/)
- [frontend-app-instruct](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-instruct): the new, native frontend-base app that implements the Instructor Dashboard

I also nominate him as Code Contributor to any frontend-app repositories that are undergoing frontend-base conversions, but with write access explicitly limited to the corresponding `frontend-base` branches (until they merge with the main branches, at which point he’ll have write access to the entire repos). For now, this means he’d have write access to the following:

- [frontend-app-authn@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-authn/tree/frontend-base)
- [frontend-app-account@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-account/tree/frontend-base)
- [frontend-app-profile@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-profile/tree/frontend-base)
- [frontend-app-learner-dashboard@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-learner-dashboard/tree/frontend-base)
- [frontend-app-gradebook@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-gradebook/tree/frontend-base)
- [frontend-app-discussions@frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-discussions/tree/frontend-base)

**Commitment** : Javier, a member of the WGU team, has been focused exclusively on the Open edX project since the first half of 2025 and is contributing full-time to the Open edX project.

**Caliber** : In that time he’s made [pull requests to various repositories](https://github.com/pulls?q=is%3Apr+author%3Aholaontiveros+user%3Aopenedx+), not limited to frontend-base itself, but including two full conversions to frontend-base, something which requires a deep understanding of the architecture:

- [Fix typescript bug in frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-base/pull/95)
- [Convert Gradebook to frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-gradebook/pull/500)
- [Convert Discussions to frontend-base](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-discussions/pull/816)

The two latter PRs are still in progress, but they’ve been held up by circumstances outside Javier’s control. This is actually a big reason why he’s being nominated: we feel he’s more than ready to start leading, reviewing, and merging frontend-base conversions himself, and to thus help move frontend-base work forward more quickly.

**Conduct** : Javier is a prolific code reviewer (he’s been [involved in over 30 PRs](https://github.com/pulls?q=is%3Apr+involves%3Aholaontiveros+user%3Aopenedx+)). He consistently provides constructive feedback in a helpful and respectful manner.

**Comment Period** : Please provide comments/feedback on Jacobo’s nomination before December 24, 2025. I’ll be happy to address any questions or concerns.

Thank you guys normally I feel that I spent more time helping other people than contributing directly, but I’m happy that can I can help in any way

We got 6 +1s (not counting my own), so we’re good to go! Congrats, Javier!

> As per the nomination thread, in addition to regular write access to \[frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-base/) and \[frontend-app-instruct\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-instruct), Javier should have limited write access to any frontend-app-\* repositories that have a \`frontend-base\` branch, in which case he should only be able to write to that particular branch. Currently, these are:
>
> \* \[frontend-app-authn@frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-authn/tree/frontend-base)
> \* \[frontend-app-account@frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-account/tree/frontend-base)
> \* \[frontend-app-profile@frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-profile/tree/frontend-base)

> \* \[frontend-app-gradebook@frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-gradebook/tree/frontend-base)
> \* \[frontend-app-discussions@frontend-base\](https://github.com/openedx/frontend-app-discussions/tree/frontend-base)
>
> However, in conversation with @sarina we agreed that trying to implement this limit with GH branch protection rules might become too complicated (if not impossible). Instead, given the wording of the nomination and the fact CCs are by definition trusted, we suggest that Javier simply be given write access to all frontend-app-\* repositories via the https://github.com/orgs/openedx/teams/committers-frontend-apps team (in addition to https://github.com/orgs/openedx/teams/committers-frontend-base). He will then be informed (and trusted) to restrict himself as per the nomination.
