# Default proctoring tool in OpenEdx

Hello Everyone,
Does OpenEdx provide a default proctoring tool? Because I see a lot of settings related to proctoring in maple release.

Hi @kiran_chauhan,
I’ve never actually set up proctoring in an Open edX instance before, but what I do know is that:
1. It’s possible;
2. You have to use third-party proctoring providers to achieve it.
It looks like [edx.org](http://edx.org) supports either [RPNow or Proctortrack](https://edx.readthedocs.io/projects/edx-partner-course-staff/en/latest/proctored_exams/overview.html#comparison-of-rpnow-and-proctortrack), so that’s where I’d start looking.
If you only need [timed exams](https://edx.readthedocs.io/projects/open-edx-building-and-running-a-course/en/latest/course_features/timed_exams.html#timed-exams), though, you don’t necessarily have to configure a proctoring provider.
