# edX merger with 2U

There are many details to still be worked out, but it is very exciting news.

We had a discussion about it at [yesterday’s Contributor’s meetup](https://discuss.openedx.org/t/open-edx-contributors-meetup/1450/65).

Yes, the $800M proceeds from the sale will be used to fund a new non-profit to steward and extend the Open edX platform, and do other work to improve education around the world.
