Hi everyone,
I am proposing a plan to deprecate the Course Discovery Service. My goal here is not to get rid of it anytime soon, nor am I yet working on a replacement. What I’d like is to get community buy-in around the idea of eventually removing it, and to catalyze a community-led process of designing a replacement along the lines described in the proposal.
Please read [DEPR]: Course Discovery Service · Issue #4449 · openedx/course-discovery · GitHub for all the details on this proposal and to post any questions/comments. The proposed deadline for comments before acceptance is 23 October 2024, one month from today.
If this proposal is highly relevant to your interests, please make sure you are subscribed both to the GitHub issue and this Discourse thread.
If you are excited about this proposal, please consider volunteering your time to help with the design and/or implementation of the replacement (new core catalog service, new integration points, etc.). This effort will require a close collaboration between product, developer, and user stakeholders. (And though I will certainly be involved, I am not expecting/committing to lead the replacement effort, so each project will need a lead instigator/organizer in particular.)
Thanks!
Braden
