Hello, 2U is the current maintainer of edx-ace. We are no longer able to dedicate the amount of time needed to properly maintain this component to the level described in OEP-55 and we are seeking a new maintainer.
Hi @deborahgu, I’ve contributed a lot to edx-ace, so we may be able to maintain it. We have depleated our capacity so far for opensource contributions esp. mine, but we’ll see.
On 3 December 2025 if now new maintainer can be found I’ll begin putting through the deprecation and removal process.
How do you propose to deprecate it and what’s the alternative?
it’s a really quiet repository, I don’t think it gets many updates except for automatic package updates. Even if you don’t have time to make open-source contributions, primarily it’s checking on the status of the automated PRs and any pull requests that come from anyone in the community, approving, merging, etc.
I think the process if we can’t find a new maintainer is that it goes through the normal deprecation process (OEP-21: Deprecation and Removal — Open edX Proposals 1.0 documentation), which does have a window for people to make counter arguments, and then 2U would fork our own copy and maintain it locally. (Like you, we have depleted our capacity for open source maintainership; we are likely to still contribute code but won’t be able to reliably take on ownership.)
