PXC: A New Approach to Interactive Learning Components in Open edX

Hi everyone,

We recently published a detailed blog on something we believe the Open edX community should be paying closer attention to: PXC — Portable, sandboXed Components.

The blog builds on the session presented by Régis Behmo at Open edX Conference 2026 and explores a small but persistent challenge in learning platforms: why building truly interactive learning experiences still feels harder than it should.

Read the full blog

What it covers

  • Why interactive learning content is still difficult to build, reuse, and maintain
  • Where existing approaches like SCORM, LTI, and H5P help and where they still leave gaps
  • How PXC could offer a more portable and sandboxed way to bring richer learning components into Open edX
  • Why this matters for instructional designers, LMS teams, and learning technology leaders

We’re sharing this with the Open edX community because the conversation around interactive learning, portability, and extensibility feels especially relevant right now.

Would love to hear how others in the community are thinking about this problem, especially teams working with custom learning components, reusable content, or interactive course experiences.

Hi @LalaRukh - welcome, and thanks for posting!

I think the blog link may be to the wrong site; it just links me to the Edly homepage. Could you kindly post the blog link?

Hy @sarina I have edited the link you can check now.

Hello,

As a complete rookie in this field, this was a very interesting reading and it looks like a very promising technology.

I’ve been struggling to wrap my head around what could be the best way to integrate IT infrastructure and DevOps activities (training and assessment labs, with or without grading) into Open edX. Theses activities require provisioning environments (containers, VMs, etc) where the trainee activities would actually be performed, ideally through Open edX, serving as a portal embedding a web shell. Trainee and grading system should have the hability to trigger checks, from Open edX UI, run in its dedicated env, to verify task completion/success.

Could PXC help with this? In which way?

Thanks in advance for your enligntenment and educating me further

TY
J
