We talked about upgrading mysql version in Slack.
As Mysql 5.6 is out of support for Ubuntu 16.04 and also 18.04,
I want to know if there is any progress on upgrading it and if my help would be welcome.

Hi Mahyar,
We are going to be exploring the upgrade path soon. We will be targeting the Koa release with a version of Open edX confirmed compatible MySQL 5.7 and Ubuntu 18.04. If you end up performing your own upgrade before then please let me know what challenges you face. When we start tackling that project we would love to upstream your changes.
