We plan to deprecate and remove BasicAuthentication as a default DRF authentication class in edx-platform.

A shorter than usual deadline for comments is being proposed, because this is more of an inform around cleaning up something that was never explicitly added in the first place. The proposed deadline for comments before acceptance is this Friday, Aug 18.
Once the ticket is accepted, removal can happen at any time.
After acceptance, all future notifications around removal will only be posted to the GitHub issue, so be sure to watch that issue if you want further updates.
