First page of our OE site shows a list of courses that I seem to have no control over. It list the oldest courses first, but it also seems to be a mix (open.uit.no) I have seen that one can disable ENABLE_COURSE_SORTING_BY_START_DATE, and that would change the order, but this should be more accessible – in my opinion.
Also… Is there a way to “pin” one ore more courses to the top of the page? We have “important” courses that run every semester, and the way it is by default, students have to search for the courses as they are brand new and do not show on the front page.
PS: This is not about /dashboard or explore new courses when logged in - this is the front page you see when not logged in.
I believe it is called “highlighted-courses” in code.
Hi @Marksten - unfortunately the Course Catalog has not received much active development in the past few years. We are currently converting it to an MFE, that will be released in Ulmo. We’re not doing any work to “pin” courses (we’re just moving the code to an MFE for better looks/themability, as well as cleaning up dead code), but that would be an addition we’d welcome a contribution for.
Hi Sarina, and thank you for your reply.
Is this MFE something we can add to our installation (Palm)? Upgrading to latest version every time there is a new release is just too painful for our org. Too many things are not working as they should, and going through every course to see what does and doesn’t work is just not a viable option. We are not in control of our servers, and therefore can’t do any “fix” ourselves. As an educational institution paying out national provider of OE – which we more or less have to use, is not within our financial scope either.
If I was able to contribute with code, I would, but I am not an engineer/programmer – I admin all the courses. So providing easy access for thousands of students is enough at the moment.
Anyways, thank you for your reply. Hopefully, future releases will be customisable for those who actually work with OE.
Unfortunately the MFE won’t be able to work with the Palm version. I understand updating software is difficult, however it is best practice to get not only the latest features but also important security updates.
