A few months back we kicked off a small pilot to try out Github’s Copilot review functionality that it made available to our GitHub org. The goal was to understand whether it would be useful or harmful before we opened the gates to everyone running it on all PRs.
Based on the pilot we saw that when used, GitHub copilot reviews didn’t provide very useful feedback, and most people stopped using it over time. That said, the technology is evolving and we don’t see any major concerns with opening it up to the whole community. Starting today, anyone can request code reviews from GitHub copilot at their own discretion. However, please review our policies around this before you go use it on everything.
