Need Help with Advanced Theming and MFE Customizations in Open edX (Tutor-Based Setup)

Hey all,

I’m working on the frontend of my Open edX instance right now and I’ve found that basic theming is just not enough. I would really like some advice on what to do for advanced theming, mainly customizing templates and also going deeper into custom UI components, beyond the provided documentation.

I’m stuck on a few questions:

How do I override default templates in MFEs like the Learning MFE without breaking upgrades down the line?

Is there a clean way to manage the custom SASS/SCSS so it won’t conflict with the base theme?

What are best practices or examples of advanced theming that the community recommend from other real-world settings?

I’ve read about Tutor plugins and I’m going to have a Tutor setup, but I’m not sure where to start with advanced theming to perform deeper visual customizations.

I’d appreciate if anyone had step-by-step examples for how to learn cybersecurity or lessons learned from their experience with theming Open edX instances that they could share.

Thanks!
