Relocating Grading and Dates Settings into the "Grading" and "Schedule & Details" pages

:backhand_index_pointing_right: For the full context of the overall project to migrate all Advanced Settings into more suitable locations, see https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/x/AwAjOAE

Overview

This project proposes migrating grading- and date-related configurations from the Studio Advanced Settings page into the Grading page and the Schedule & Details page, consolidating assessment policies and timelines in their most logical locations.

Problem

Grading and date settings are currently dispersed, with some hidden in Advanced Settings. This fragmentation makes it harder for course authors to set up grading and scheduling policies consistently, increasing the risk of errors and additional support requests.

Use Cases

  • As a course author, I need grading and scheduling configurations placed in their respective pages so I can set up policies efficiently without switching contexts.

  • As an instructor, I need a clear separation between grading rules and scheduling details in order to configure courses accurately and save time.

Supporting Data

Schema’s analysis identified 5 grading- and date-related settings in Advanced Settings. These can be relocated as follows:

  • More related to Grading page:

    • Course Not Graded

    • Remote Gradebook

  • More related to Schedule & Details page:

    • Due Date

    • Due Date Display Format

    • Number of Relative Weeks Due By

Relocating these settings will:

  • Centralize grading rules in the Grading page.

  • Centralize scheduling policies in the Schedule & Details page.

  • Reduce confusion and support burden by aligning configuration with authors’ expectations.
