I was looking at creating a timed exam with some questions grouped into two categories. Questions in one category is supposed to have negative markings. Is negative marking supported? If not, is there a work-around?

As far as I know there is no negative marking system available in Open edX, moreover you can’t categorize the questions in a direct way, what can be done however is that you can create 2 units/2 subsections with those categories.
And instead of negative marking, what can be done is you can restrict the number of attempts to 1, in that way users only attempt your question once.
Hey Samit, maybe it could if there was some development done on it, but as far as I know there are no XBlocks doing that sort of thing.
