Using Marketing URLs for Course Engagement

Hi everyone! During the investigation of “Inclusion of Social Media Icons in Learning MFE” it has been discovered that having a populated Marketing URL field in the LMS admin panel (LMS/admin/course_overviews/courseoverview/) is essential for displaying these icons. Social media platforms showcase the link specified in the Marketing URL field along with analytical parameters. An example of such a link is https://lms-palm-dev.com/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin. It’s important to note that UTM tags do not modify the content of the destination page.

Proposal: An idea has emerged to introduce a toggle feature (Waffle flag) that, when activated, would automatically assign the marketing_url variable with a link to the course’s About Page. However, if the Marketing URL field is manually filled in the LMS admin panel, the value manually entered would take precedence.

Conclusion: Kindly check my proposal and supplement if there are any suggestions. If anyone has alternative ideas for implementation, I am open to hearing them.

Hi @jmakowski
We’ve identified that a custom marketing URL is necessary for the proper functioning of Social icons in the Learning MFE. Currently, this field is empty by default. I propose implementing the approach outlined in the description. Can your team look into this issue or recommend something more appropriate?

Hi @jmakowski

Could you please take a moment to review this idea, or reach out to one of the maintainers who is more closely involved with this topic for evaluation?

Thank you!
