Draft Juniper release notes

We are also collecting low-level upgrade notes for Juniper. If you are running the native installation and you tried to upgrade from Ironwood to Juniper, we want to know about your experience. We’ll then collect the notes here: https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/COMM/pages/1488977937/Juniper+Upgrade+instructions+WIP

For now, the only recommended approach for the native installation is to:

  1. Backup all data from mongodb and mysql
  2. Deploy Juniper to a brand new server
  3. Import data into mongodb and mysql

Obviously, this procedure has much room for improvement. We would love to have low-level instructions for upgrading an existing server in-place. This would not necessarily be a one-click upgrade, but at least a step-by-step manual.

EdX themselves do not upgrade servers in-place. As far as I am concerned, I only run Open edX with Tutor and I do not test the native installation. So it would be great to have some feedback from other people in the community who use the native installation. Please reply to this topic if you are interested.
