I posted in Slack (#wg-build-test-release) about shifting our Verawood timeline, and it looks like it has initial support. Posting here on the forums for further discussion & visibility.
Hi everyone. I have a concern I want to raise about the Verawood timeline, and a proposal to consider. The Open edX conference is right in the middle of the testing period, and I know both Axim and OpenCraft will be largely unavailable in the week or two after the conference (most of Axim is going on vacation, and OpenCraft has their in-person week).
My proposal is that we shift both cut and release dates by two weeks. This would give us more time post-conference for Axim reviewers to finalize review and merge of high priority bugs. I think if we try to keep the release date June 9, realistically that date will be shifting anyway due to all the vacation planned.
As somebody who’s going to take time off after the conference and is responsible for releasing some work for Verawood, I’m entirely in favor of this proposal.
Seems like the right course of action here - though each time situations like this happen I keep wondering if our release cadence of 2/ year is too few. And each time I have thought this / mentioned it - I know I’m so far removed from the challenges and operational complexity of releases that I’m not in the right to actually suggest a change.
Regardless I think it’s important for people to give their attention to the conference and the time off that many in our community take after as well.

Quick update from the BTR meeting on the 23rd: we’re going ahead with pushing the Verawood timeline by 2 weeks. The main concern is the overlap between testing and the conference in May, which will likely affect participation.
The cut is still end of April, so some overlap is unavoidable either way. We’ll keep a close eye on testing progress and adjust if needed.
