I just watched the demo course, and I am fascinated by the kind of things you can do with edX. The university where I work uses Moodle, and I would like to test edX. If it is as good as it seems, I would like to try to install it at my institution. Does anyone know if there is a way to create a test course on edX? I mean, is there a way to emulate edX and create a webpage for my “first edX course” to promote it within my institution?
The sandbox wipes all data every 7 days, but you can export your course at the end of the week and re-import it the next week. It’s a good opportunity to try out what the Open edX platform has to offer at no cost and minimal effort.
Also a word on nomenclature - “edX” only refers to one thing, the website, edx.org. “Open edX” refers to the Open Source platform that runs all Open edX courses across hundreds of websites, and the Open edX community - you’re interacting with the Open edX community on the Open edX forums right now. It’s a little confusing, but I thought I’d clarify a bit since you used both terms. Let me know if you have any questions
The Open edX sandbox allows users to register and authenticate their account and to explore the authoring tool and create courses from an author’s perspective. Here’s how to get started:
Register for free and authenticate your email address.
Log in to https://sandbox.openedx.org/, then click on the “Studio” button in the header navigation bar. This will open a new page, taking you directly into the authoring tool.
Voilà! You can now experiment with the platform and start creating courses.
Thanks a lot @sarina , ehuthmacher and @abstract-technology !
Yesterday I completed all these stages but after filling all the fields and clicking “Create”, I obtained a message below in the webpage telling me I needed permissions to create a course.
Today I think I did all the same and the course was created, so maybe I did something wrong yesterday. Thanks again for your help.
