Unable to Accept Discussion Forum Invitation – "Your email cannot be used to redeem this invite"

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to invite one of my colleagues to the Open edX Discussions forum, but we’re unable to complete the registration.

Steps followed:

  1. Sent an invitation to my colleague’s email.
  2. Opened the invitation link.
  3. Filled in the required details (email, username, password, etc.).
  4. Clicked “Accept Invitation”.

Issue:
The following error appears:

“Your email cannot be used to redeem this invite.”

I’ve attached a screenshot below for reference.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Could this be related to:

  • The email address already being associated with another account?
  • An expired or invalid invitation?
  • Email case sensitivity?
  • A Discourse or forum configuration issue?

Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Yagnesh and sorry for the late reply here.

We had seen a major uptick in spam in the forums and tried to turn on some spam-prevention measures, but may have gone a bit too far.

Could you try again? Your colleague should be able to now register directly for an account themselves (I don’t know how the invitation functionality works, however, we were able to get new users registered today now!)
