Hi there!
This Monday Axim held a preliminary in-person discussion about frontend-base and other frontend plans for Ulmo and beyond. We called it the Frontend-base Mini-Summit, and you can find the notes here. We’d like to not only present our findings from that conversation but to continue it during the next Frontend Working Group Meeting on Thursday, May 08, 2025. If you have opinions (strong or otherwise) on any of the following, it would be great if you could come!
- A strategy for publishing MFEs to NPM as buildless libraries
- A way to then use those libraries to build all MFEs in one go, but also to continue to be able to build and deploy them separately
- The possibility of using a bundler other than Webpack for faster builds, and if so, which one (vite or rsbuild)
- Nothing we do should get in the way of supporting server-side rendering (SSR) in the future; this is why we’re not going to continue pushing for module federation
- Moving from micro-frontends to macro-frontends, so that we end up with only two frontend app repositories: frontend-app-learning and frontend-app-authoring
- Anything else we can fit from @braden’s latest wishlist
None of this is set in stone, so if you have ideas, this is the time to propose them! Development has already started in some areas, but there’s still time to pivot - specially if you’re willing to contribute.
You can find the details on the meeting page, but if you’re not able to make it, feel free to discuss the above topics here or on #wg-frontend on Slack.
