Announcing the Frontend Working Group

Hi all!

I wanted to take a a moment to announce the creation of the Frontend Working Group.

The group is responsible for stewardship of the frontend of the Open edX platform. We envision it as a technical advisory board, curator of our frontend strategic roadmap, and as a resource to empower the community to execute on our shared frontend challenges and opportunities.

As initial projects, the group is looking at upgrading our services to use Node 16 from Node 12, and also the retirement of IE 11 support. Beyond that, we also envision near-term work on frontend extensibility, an updated micro-frontend configuration mechanism, further investment in Paragon, and improving support for MFEs in Open edX releases.

To learn more about the group, please see our wiki page: https://openedx.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FEDX/pages/3090056949/Frontend+Working+Group

Our calendar is here, which includes a working session Tuesdays at 9:30am ET:

Also feel free to reach out here or join #frontend-working-group in the Open edX Slack. Most importantly, join us! We want to welcome folks of any experience level - you don’t have to be an expert to participate. There’s a lot of work to do, and plenty of opportunities to get in on the ground floor of defining our priorities and future roadmap.

Thanks all!

@djoy Great initiative! It’s good to see this, it looks helpful to coordinate the various efforts on the frontend side. :+1:
