I’d like to nominate Rodrigo Mendez to expand his Core Contributor rights to become a Code Contributor of openedx/openedx-platform.
Prior work / standing: Rodrigo has been a Core Contributor since January 2026 and is already a CC and Maintainer of openedx-authz (original nomination). A member of the WGU team, he contributes full-time to the Open edX project and brings additional years of experience from his time at WGU.
Motivation: Rodrigo already does substantial work directly in openedx-platform — 12 authored PRs and 37 reviews to date. His authored work is the backbone of the AuthZ-for-Course-Authoring effort on the platform, plus the Libraries v2 backup endpoint for content-libraries import/export in the Ulmo release. He has shown a deep understanding of API boundaries, authorization, and the platform’s integration points, backed by substantive, insightful reviews.
Caliber: Rodrigo’s code is consistently high-quality and well thought out. Here are some of the efforts he has led/contributed to:
- RBAC / AuthZ for Course Authoring (platform side) — the backbone of the effort in
openedx-platform: the legacy-permission compatibility layer, per-endpoint permission checks across assets, import/export, grading and group configuration, and the waffle flag. - AuthZ library architecture (
openedx-authz) — RBAC cache invalidation, library-permission migration, and foundational ADRs (e.g. JWT usage, overall AuthZ-for-Course-Authoring strategy) and reviews. - Content Libraries v2 — the Libraries v2 backup / import-export work for the Ulmo release.
Conduct: Rodrigo is a prolific and respectful reviewer who consistently provides constructive, helpful feedback in line with the Code of Conduct and the “3 C’s.”
Comment Period: Please share feedback or support before 22 October, 2026. Thank you!
