Core Contributor Nomination: Carlos Marquez

I’d like to nominate Carlos Marquez (carlos-marquez-wgu) for a Core Contributor role as a Code Contributor and Maintainer of the following repository:

Commitment: Carlos has worked on the Open edX project full time as a member of the WGU team, and will continue to contribute the majority of his time to it. His recent focus has been the authorization (AuthZ) subsystem — both the openedx-authz library itself and the openedx-platform, admin-console, and Tutor work that integrates it. (Note: some of his time has been devoted to maintaining WGU’s instance of Open edX.)

Caliber: Carlos has delivered a steady stream of high-quality pull requests across the AuthZ surface, with clear descriptions, motivation, and testing instructions. Most of his work centers on building out the AuthZ permission model and the APIs that expose it:

Across this work he has shown the care and consistency expected of a Core Contributor.

Conduct: Carlos is a thoughtful, collaborative contributor who is already doing maintainer-level work on openedx-authz. He has reviewed a broad set of PRs across the AuthZ surface — 23 upstream PRs with 38 submitted reviews, concentrated in openedx-authz (the whole AuthZ schema series, the admin-console RBAC UI, and the AuthZ-gating PRs in openedx-platform). He provides clear, constructive feedback on others’ work and is responsive to feedback on his own. He is respectful and welcoming in line with the Code of Conduct and the “3 C’s” (Commitment, Conduct, Caliber).

Comment Period: Please provide comments/feedback on Carlos’s nomination before 23 October, 2026. Thank you!

+1 from me :+1:. Carlos brings with him a lot of valuable experience working on WGU’s internal instance of Open edX and has been making meaningful contributions to the AuthZ efforts.

+1 he’s been following the code of conduct since I know him and he started working on internal WGU oex instance, he’s careful and methodic and brings lots of experience.

I haven’t work with Carlos directly but :+1: based on the contributions he’s made to Authz already!

+1 from me! :owl: :dizzy:
