Hello Open edX \o/
I am happy to nominate my colleague @Ali_Salman29 to become a coding core contributor and Open edX maintainer
Ali is a software engineer at Edly and was part of our team of four who migrated the cs_comments_service app from Ruby to Python: GitHub - openedx/forum: Python rewrite of the legacy Open edX Ruby forum
Among his many contributions to this repo, he focused in particular on integrating the Elasticsearch search capabilities in the new application (see PR).
Other non-public achievements include
- essential contributions to the multilingual capabilities of the Open edX platform in the context of Wikimedia (see this meetup presentation)
- the creation of custom xblocks, such as xblock-sortable
Given his expertise, I would like to nominate him for maintainership and write access to the following two repositories:
- openedx/forum: where Ali will help maintain the new forum app.
- openedx/edx-search: where Ali’s first responsibility will actually be to simplify search functionalities across the Open edX codebase and (probably) get rid of edx-search, as discussed here and in this document.
The comment period will last until November 29th. For this to pass, Ali needs 5 positive votes and no unaddressed concerns.
