Hello, I’m excited to nominate @Emad to be a Coding Core Contributor and Maintainer for the Open edX project!
Emad is an engineer at edSPIRIT. He has contributed regularly for over two years, including:
- adding Persian language support to over a dozen repos, e.g.: Persian language by CodeWithEmad · Pull Request #246 · openedx/frontend-app-ora-grading · GitHub
- squashing warnings in GitHub workflows across dozens of repos, e.g.: fix: pypi-publish master branch sunset by CodeWithEmad · Pull Request #261 · openedx/edx-when · GitHub
- finding and fixing documentation issues in various repos, e.g.: fix: cleanup by CodeWithEmad · Pull Request #775 · openedx/XBlock · GitHub
- providing help and expertise on the forums, e.g.: Enable CORS in tutor AWS AMI
Additionally, over in the Tutor project, Emad has been an active contributor for the past three years, notably:
- maintaining cookiecutter-tutor-plugin
- frequenting the Tutor Users’ Group (and the DevX working group before that)
- reporting and fixing core Tutor issues, e.g.: root command in "openedx-dockerfile" patch triggers "permission denied" · Issue #597 · overhangio/tutor · GitHub
- jumping headfirst into otherwise-stalled issues, taking ownership of them, and enthusiastically collaborating until they are fixed, e.g.: Preview mode breaks in Maple if PREVIEW_LMS_HOST is not a subdomain of LMS_HOST · Issue #557 · overhangio/tutor · GitHub
Given Emad’s experience making changes across the Open edX ecosystem, I think he is well-suited to help maintain some of our currently-unmaintained repos. In particular, I would like to nominate him for write access to and maintainership of the following four repos:
- GitHub - openedx/openedx-chem
- GitHub - openedx/frontend-app-ora-grading: Open Response Assessment - Enhanced Staff Grader - Allows graders to easily review, evaluate and grade ORAs
- GitHub - openedx/olxcleaner: Tool for checking edX courses for errors and creating content reports
- GitHub - openedx/acid-block: An XBlock for testing XBlock Runtimes
The comment period will last until 05 September (2.5 weeks). For this to pass, Emad needs 5 positive votes and no unaddressed concerns.
