Core Contributor Nomination: Jesse Stewart

Hi everyone!

I’d like to nominate @Jesse.Stewart.WGU for a Core Contributor role as a Code Contributor and Maintainer to the new frontend-app-instruct MFE, which is both a new repo for the MFE version of the existing, legacy Instructor Dashboard pages, and our first frontend-base native MFE.

Commitment: Jesse, a member of the WGU team, has been focused exclusively on the Open edX project since April and will be contributing full-time to the Open edX project.

Calibur: In that time he’s made some high-quality PRs that demonstrate command of the frontend ecosystem.

  • His first Open edX PR (to frontend-app-learning) required going through the Product Review Process. I was impressed with his determination to get things through, and also loved that he included a screencast demo in his PR description that helped the Product team understand his changes.

  • He made a pair of changes (fea-learning, fe-lib-special-exams) and an associated, not merged change to frontend-platform to fix a visual bug with sequences. Here I was impressed with the clarity of PR descriptions and graciousness when his frontend-platform PR was deemed unnecessary.

  • He’s currently working on a complicated CORS issue for 3rd party auth (we’re still looking for a reviewer, hint hint!) that shows his flexibility with both frontend and backend code.

We feel he is well prepared to become a CC and maintainer on `frontend-app-instruct` because he is participating in the conversion project and will support ongoing maintenance.

Conduct: Jesse is a prolific code reviewer (he’s been involved in over 60 PRs). He consistently provides constructive feedback in a helpful and respectful manner. I’ve participated in synchronous meetings with Jesse and he is thoughtful, respectful of others on the call, and always willing to help out with action items.

Comment Period: Please provide comments/feedback on Jesse’s nomination before September 4, 2025 . Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to support this nomination however I can!

I’ve just started working with Jesse and am excited to have him as part of the community. +1

+1! Jesse’s contribution are always valuable and very well documented, also he has reported some bugs on the platform! Some examples here:
Unit Prerequisites Lost During Course Export/Import
sequence-container > outline-sidebar-wrapper height is set by sequence height, hiding navigation when content is short

:+1:

Jesse’s contributions look great. The new Instruct app is a perfect start for his contributorship. It would be great to have him aboard!

A definite :+1: from me!

Jesse’s work addressing tricky bugs has shown an incredible ability to learn the intricacies of the platform. He also always communicates issues and solutions in a way that makes reviewing his PRs an absolute pleasure!

I have no doubt that we’ll have more great work from him in store when he’s a CC!
