I attempt to create my first course, i click " Create a new course", I fill in the boxes following the rules with no error warnings, but there is a dropdown menu for “Organization”, I choose “Test” because my first course is a test run…Nothing. I choose every option and still nothing. What am I doing wrong when the create button does nothing? I contacted the help desk, they said to come here which I find problematic. Help desk should help with this issue not me coming here for a technichal issue with the studio sandbox. but ok, I’m here…what is the problem when I attempt to create a course and I get nothing?
Hi @Ash_Sjodin and welcome. Could you please provide a screenshot showing what you’re trying to do, and a URL to the site that you’re using?
This is a known, very serious issue: Cannot create new course for new organization using the frontend-app-authoring MFE · Issue #1199 · openedx/frontend-app-authoring · GitHub
Hello @regis
I see that the Create Course button is Active when I select an Organization, but it is NOT active if I don’t fill in an Organization. When I do fill in the Organization, I get a 403 Forbidden Error in the console when I try to create a Course. I also note that there is no way for me to Create a new Organization. So, I am wondering if I get a 403 Forbidden because I don’t have permissions to create a course in any of the existing Organizations in the drop down?
Also, I’ve reviewed the conversation in Cannot create new course for new organization using the frontend-app-authoring MFE · Issue #1199 · openedx/frontend-app-authoring · GitHub. Not confident this addresses this specific issue?
I have a screencast with Console open, but I am apparently not allowed to post it yet, because I am a new user
@Michelle_Brennan Which sandbox are you referring to? (please indicate the URL)
You should now have permission to upload files, please share your screencast.
Hello @regis! Thank you so much for your reply.

Here is the screencast on Google Drive: OpenEdXStudioBug.mov - Google Drive
I’m pretty sure that you are not able to create the course because you don’t have admin rights in this sandbox. Please try again on this other sandbox: https://sandbox.openedx.edly.io/ (login: admin password: admin)
That being said, you are stumbling upon a usability bug: course creation shouldn’t be failing without some sort of explicit message such as “You are not allowed to create a new course within this organization”. I created this issue to keep track of it: Users who attempt to create courses without access rights should get an error message · Issue #1505 · openedx/frontend-app-authoring · GitHub
You are most welcome to comment on it. Let’s move the conversation there.
