Want:
When adding a course video through the Unit Component in Studio, there should be a file uploader, which then uploads the video to a configured AWS S3, rather than adding the S3 URL.
Is there a way to do this currently? After surfing the forum, I’ve only found topics related to ORA w/ AWS S3, which isn’t relevant to my use case.
If a large organization is using S3 to serve their course videos, how is the course team managing all the URLs etc? Let’s say a course member wants to add a course video. With the current setup, the member would need to contact the relevant person having access to the AWS console for them to upload the video first, before handing over the URL. This seems like a tedious workflow.
How are such organizations handling this use case? Please let me know. Thank you.
Yes, Open edX does support this workflow. It is available through the Video Pipeline feature.
I recently enabled Video Pipeline in an Open edX Ulmo release project. With Video Pipeline, course teams can upload videos directly from Studio, and the videos are processed and uploaded to a configured AWS S3 bucket. Once uploaded, the resulting video can be used in the Video component without requiring the course team to manually upload files through the AWS console.
There is also another option called MinIO, which can be used for similar object-storage use cases, depending on your infrastructure and requirements.
I would recommend looking into Open edX Video Pipeline and MinIO for more details. There is documentation and community discussion available around both approaches.
