YouTube video not playing in the Android app (Error Code 15)

Hello everyone,

I’m facing an issue where YouTube videos are not playing inside the Open edX Android app.

When a video block in a course contains a YouTube video, it shows the following message instead of playing the video in the android app:

“This video is unavailable. (Error code: 15)”

Details

  • App version: ( open-release/sumac.3 tag)

  • Open edX release: ( open-release/sumac.3 tag)

  • Device: Tested on various android devices and emulators

  • Video source: Video block in Studio

What I’ve checked

  • The same YouTube video plays fine in the browser (LMS).

  • Other (non-YouTube) videos play correctly in the app.

  • The issue occurs across multiple devices and accounts.

  • The app shows “This video is unavailable (Error 15)” immediately after loading.

Question

Has anyone else faced this issue recently?
Is there a known fix or configuration needed for YouTube playback within the Android app?

Any guidance or confirmation from others would be really helpful!

Hi, Yogesh!

We already fixed this issue and merged to develop

For fix this you need to update androidyoutubeplayer to 13.0.0 version
