Hi folks. It’s my pleasure to nominate my colleague @Fox_Piacenti to become a Core Contributor. Fox is pretty well-known in the community, and it has sometimes been assumed that he is already a Core Contributor. I think it’s time to make it official.
I am proposing that Fox become a Core Contributor, with commit rights to xblocks-contrib and maintainership of web-fragments, which is currently looking for a maintainer.
The Three Cs
Commitment: Fox’s work at OpenCraft is focused on Open edX, and can he commit to contributing least 10h/month in this new role.
Conduct: If you’ve ever met Fox in person at the Open edX Conference or other events, you’ll probably remember his friendly energy or his terrible dad jokes. He’s been very involved in many aspects of the Open edX community over the years (see next section), and has consistently been positive, constructive, and helpful.
Caliber: Fox is a man of many talents, and a very experienced developer on both frontend and backend. Among other things, he was the original developer of the poll/survey xblock (which is still in use 12 years later), he added the original OpenBadges support to the platform, he developed the Listaflow app used for Core Contributor checkins, and lately, he has been working on bringing the PDF XBlock to the base Open edX Platform.
In his previous role as Business Development Manager at OpenCraft, he expertly advised many OpenCraft clients and potential clients on how best to use the Open edX platform. He has also presented talks and workshops at the Open edX conference and written many articles for the community (e.g. How to Make Your Own Micro Front End, An Overview of Open edX Components, A quick overview guide of the Devstack, The 2U edX Acquisition: OpenCraft’s take, and An intro on the Open edX platform’s new Editable Gradebook). And finally, he has been constructively involved in many discussions on the forum, Slack, and GitHub.
